From Joe Jackson to Frank Thomas, A Look at the Chicago White Sox, Both Past and Present

While the ability to score under Ozzie Guillen’s “one run at a time” system somewhat questionable, the White Sox are going to really have to ride their pitching. Brandon McCarthy did the job yesterday as he pitched five solid innings to improve to 3-0 this spring.
McCarthy gave up two unearned runs and six hits. He walked one and struckout three. At this stage, I’ll take it. MLB.com talks about how McCarthy might end up finding his way to AAA despite the strong spring season. They also say that if he does make the big league team, it will be as a long reliever. I’m all for it, since I’ve always been a fan of the Earl Weaver method of developing pitchers. When you bring them up, let them pitch long relief before putting them in the rotation.
