From Joe Jackson to Frank Thomas, A Look at the Chicago White Sox, Both Past and Present
[powered by WordPress.]
The White Sox traded another of the starters that helped them win a World Series back in 2005 as they sent Jon Garland to the Angels for shortstop Orlando Cabrera. This comes on the heels of the White Sox re-signing Juan Uribe to a one year deal. Cabrera is coming off of a career year at the plate to go along with a gold glove and while his age a little bit of a concern, he’s definitely an upgrade over Uribe. Still you wonder if he’s that much of an upgrade to cost the team a left right handed starter like Jon Garland. For now it looks like Uribe will at least get a shot at second base or he’ll be utility infielder.
I would have rather seen them dump Jose Contreras but he looks pretty much unmovable based on his horrendous season in 2007. Still, it opens up a spot for Gavin Floyd to step in and make some noise as the fifth starter and it should give the rather punchless White Sox a little more at the plate.

Garland is a right-hander (but you knew that). Still, losing
Uribe may be worth it.
