White Sox 5, Tigers 3 (1-0)
The White Sox scored two runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and walked away with the win. Frank Owen got into a jam in the top of the ninth and had runners on second and third with two outs but he got Matty McIntrye to fly out to end the game.
Owen gave up three runs on only six hits and four walks with a single strikeout. Three of the six Tiger hits came off the bat of Germany Schaefer. Frank Isbell had three hits and he scored twice. George Davis, Jiggs Donahue and Owen all had two hits. Fielder Jones was ejected in the sixth inning after arguing a foul ball with the umpire.
Owen pitched in front of friends and family. The starter grew up in nearby Ypsilanti, MI.
